Studio 6, Dartington, Devon
May 11th-12th and September 14th-15th 2019
These weekends will be focused on Hua Gong Standing Meditation which is known for its effectiveness in recharging and rebalancing our energy, and for accomplishing extraordinary Qigong skills.
To meditate in a standing position is a great invention from the Qigong tradition. It has the advantages of both calming the mind and strengthening the body. Therefore it has been well treasured in the Qigong and Gongfu tradition. It is considered as the foundation of any advanced practice. However there has often been more emphasis on movements and sitting meditation largely for convenience, and a class specially devoted to the standing meditation is rare.
A key achievement in Qigong training is to change the way of doing things, i.e., posing, moving, pushing, carrying, etc., from using ‘brutal’ physical strength into using soft Qi force. One is inside the door of Qigong when this change of habits has taken place. More benefits on health improvements can be experienced and more advanced Qigong skills become possible. Standing meditation is an essential and probably the most effective method in achieving this change. The standing position allow the body to be grounded, utilised and strengthened. The stillness enables inner reflection and ‘self-check’ so as to meet certain requirements for the practice. Eventually the ‘Qi way’ of doing things is imprinted in our body senses. A soft yet potent way of being and moving can be developed.
We will focus on practicing a few effective meditation stances:
Hun Yuan Stance for feeling the Qi and merging into a state of emptiness so as to absorb ‘the earthly and heavenly Qi’
Yin Yang Stance to utilise the Qi to improve the blood circulation, and to balance the Yin and Yang (left and right, front and back, upper and lower) parts of the body
Gui Yi Stance for unifying the inner force to increase the potent strength of the body.
Each Stance can be unfolded into various positions depending on individual needs and capabilities. Personal guidance and empowerment will be given accordingly.
